My Name is Java and this is my story.
I was a homeless, single mom with seven puppies. No one wanted me anymore, so they took me to a great big place and left me there with my puppies. My puppies were just two-days old. I was very scared, but I had my babies with me and that was all that mattered.
The 13th Annual Dogwood Cattails Ball will be held on March 25, 2017.
For most of my life, at least what I can remember, I have lived outside. I remember sitting under the tree I was tied to watching and waiting for anyone to show me attention.......
I remember waking up and looking into the most beautiful face I had ever seen; my foster mom. Mom said I was in pretty bad shape and had to have surgery and that one of my legs had to be removed but I would be ok now and that I was safe. You know what? My mom was right, I can run around now and I eat and drink but I really just need this cone off and then I know I will feel much better.
WOW, can you believe we are almost through half of 2016! It's been a busy and exciting time for The Humane Society. We have continued with our bi-monthly adoption events at Petsmart, we have had several other adoption events, we were honored to be chosen by The Garland Farms Crawfish Boil as their charity benefactor of their event, we had another successful Dogwood Cattail Ball, and thanks to a very generous supporter, we now have 3 full time employees at our office.

In early October of 2014, the Humane Society began a cat-focused committee of community volunteers who aim to assure our cat population is health and controlled. This committee has developed an active foster care system and, with the assistance of Joy and Hannah at the Washington County Animal Shelter, we are now able to move cats and kittens from the shelter into the care of loving homes.
